With this week’s release of Destiny 18.0, Follett announced it is unveiling brand-new apps that have been designed from the ground up to bring an easy-to-use, personalized experience to school library patrons using mobile devices. The apps will conveniently facilitate the use of library materials whether students are learning in school or remotely.
In addition to providing a great experience for digital content, the new apps also enable users to search across print and digital library content. These new Destiny Discover apps for iOS and Android will be available in the iTunes and Google Play stores, respectively, on Monday (Aug. 17). Customers must be on Destiny 18.0 to use the new apps.
The new version of Destiny — Follett’s market-leading platform for library and resource management, and digital content — is available now for customers to download, in time for the start of the 2020-21 school year. Used in more than 60 percent of U.S. public schools, Destiny can be accessed from anywhere, 24/7, helping to strengthen the bond between the library, classroom and home.
“This new world of remote learning is all about bringing the library to the students – and the best way to do that is with Destiny Discover,” said Britten Follett, executive vice president, Follett School Solutions. “We continue to improve Destiny and keep it current for today’s students, teachers and librarians, and are thrilled to have partnered with our users to design an app that will make finding library resources and reading Follett ebooks a breeze!”
With the new release, Destiny Discover also will be introducing new features and capabilities that users can use to promote, access and share their important library resources. With these enhancements, as well as the new app, Follett will be retiring the Destiny Quest app and browser. With Destiny 18.0, all Destiny Quest searches will be redirected to Destiny Discover.
Destiny customers not yet using the company’s secure hosting service, Follett Destiny Cloud, are being encouraged to make the move.
“We have thousands of schools and districts across the country who are using our hosting service,” Follett said. “They have found it saves them money, time, and resources, while eliminating headaches with technical issues. Plus, new releases such as Destiny 18.0 are automatically downloaded for them.”
Other Destiny 18.0 enhancements include the addition of new interlibrary loan (ILL) reports available to help Destiny Library Manager users more easily track requests, as well as view statistics for the district. A handful of new improvements also are being introduced for Destiny Resource Manager.
Follett has scheduled a “What’s New With Destiny 18.0” webinar, which is set for 3 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, Aug. 19. To register for the one-hour webinar, visit https://bit.ly/3jG2EJs; participants can listen live or access the recorded version after it’s completed.
