San Diego County Office of Education Wins Golden Bell Award for LEC’s Online & Blended Teacher Certification

WALNUT CREEK, CA – Leading Edge Certification (LEC) - a national provider of certification programs in education technology – announced today that the California School Boards Association has recognized LEC’s Online and Blended Teacher Certification in its 2015 annual Golden Bell Awards. San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE), a Core Alliance Member of Leading Edge Certification, has won a Golden Bell Award for its implementation of LEC’s Online and Blended Teacher Certification. The Golden Bell Awards, now in its 36th year, are given out annually and recognize best practices in education throughout the state of California.

San Diego County Office of Education won the Golden Bell Award for its work with the LEC program in the category of Professional Development and Teacher Recruitment/Retention. “We are thrilled that the San Diego County Office of Education, through their work with the Online and Blended Teacher Certification, is being recognized by the California School Boards Association with the prestigious Golden Bell Award,” said Mike Lawrence, Founder of Leading Edge Certification

Dennis Danielson, Director of Educational Technology for SDCOE, accepted the Golden Bell Award during the awards luncheon at CSBA’s Annual Conference in San Diego on December 5th. An important component of Danielson’s work with SDCOE includes the use of LEC’s Online and Blended Teacher Certification to build capacity to help schools with their successful implementation of online and blended learning so that it serves the educational mission at the highest levels. "LEC is open to and benefits a wide range of educators, and we’re seeing that it meets the needs of individual educators and school districts alike," Danielson said. SDCOE's cohorts have included teachers from kindergarten through college, and since joining the LEC Alliance over four years ago, SDCOE has offered over 40 Leading Edge Certification cohorts and certified over 700 teachers and administrators.

The 2015 Golden Bell Award for SDCOE marks the second time in the past six months that the agency has won an award for its work with Leading Edge Certification. In May, the program received the Classroom of the Future Foundation's Innovation in Education Impact Award for 2015 for its implementation of Leading Edge Certification for the Online and Blended Teacher.
