StudySync and The Players’ Tribune Partner to Make Personal Stories from Professional Athletes Part of Students’ Reading Curriculum
NEW YORK —February 7, 2019 — Today, StudySync announced its content partnership with athlete-driven media company The Players’ Tribune (TPT). Through the partnership, StudySync is incorporating first-person narratives from a diverse set of international athletes into its core StudySync ELA curriculum, as well as its social media-like Blasts assignments, as part of its ongoing mission to bring relevant, high-quality content to middle and high school students.
The Players’ Tribune, founded by former baseball star Derek Jeter, publishes written articles, videos, photo essays, and podcasts from globally-recognized athletes such as NBA player Kevin Love, WNBA player Swin Cash, as well as coaches such as Tennessee Lady Vols coach, Holly Warlick. The stories are deeply personal, with topics ranging from health issues to the influence of family members, mentors, childhood experiences, and teammates. The platform also features multilingual content, including stories from Spanish-speaking athletes.

The complete StudySync ELA curriculum provides students in grades 6-12 with a diverse library of more than 1,700 fiction and nonfiction texts and text excerpts, with rich multimedia and captivating resources added daily. In addition to reading, students review short, scripted video lessons that model academic study groups and collaborative interaction. StudySync’s Blasts lessons are short reading and writing assignments based on timely topics of cultural significance. Students respond in short answer format, engaging in a thoughtful discussion with students across the country.
