Background

AI increasingly impacts our society, how we work and learn, and many other aspects of our lives. As education prepares students to succeed and contribute to the world, we must answer the question: Do our young people have the skills that matter in the AI age?

To address this question, the European Commission and OECD have joined forces to develop an AI Literacy framework for primary and secondary education. Its development is supported by Code.org and leading international experts. The framework defines what students should know and be able to do as AI evolves and shapes society, enabling them to benefit from, as well as lead and shape, the AI transition.

A framework draft was launched on May 22, 2025. The framework will be finalized in early 2026, following feedback gathered during a stakeholder consultation process.

How can you get involved?

  • Complete our survey to provide broad feedback on the framework’s content and format. Filling out the survey takes 5-7 minutes.

Why participate?

Ongoing stakeholder consultations ensure that the final version of the framework is informed by multiple geographies, industries, and perspectives. This supports the framework’s relevance and usability across educational settings.

How is feedback used?

Your feedback will inform the content and format of the framework, as well as materials that support its implementation. The final version of the framework will include a section that outlines key areas of anonymized feedback and how they shaped content development. Participants in stakeholder consultations will be acknowledged in the framework for their contributions.

Who can I contact?
