At the ISTELive 24 conference, LeiLani Cauthen, CEO of the Learning Counsel, had an enlightening conversation with Randi Economou, M.Ed., CEO of Capstone, and Laurie Diethelm, Sr. VP of Product Development at Capstone. The interview shed light on Capstone’s commitment to enhancing digital literacy and their innovative approaches to education.

Randi Economou kicked off the interview by expressing excitement about Capstone’s expanded partnership with ISTE. She introduced the "Cyber Sleuths" series, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at teaching children how to critically evaluate sources and navigate digital media safely. "We are absolutely excited to launch our deeper and wider partnership with ISTE, where we have a series called Cyber Sleuths that teach children to consider sources and learn how to have digital literacy and digital media skills," Randi stated. This initiative underscores Capstone’s dedication to equipping students with the tools they need to thrive in a digital world.

Randi also highlighted Capstone’s customer-centric approach. "We are also thrilled at Capstone to be innovators of learning. We listen to our customers. We're in a hundred percent of school districts across the nation, and we partner with teachers around the nation to inspire learning," she said. This extensive reach allows Capstone to stay attuned to the needs of educators and students, ensuring that their products and services are both relevant and effective.

Laurie Diethelm shared her enthusiasm for Capstone's philosophy that learning should be enjoyable. "We really actually believe learning should be fun," Laurie emphasized. She praised the Capstone team for their understanding of what she called the "kid edge"—a focus on making learning engaging and effective for children. "One of the most beautiful things is how well the team understands that kid edge. How do you help kids build those foundational skills? How do you help them understand digital literacy with our research tools? How do you help them build their literacy skills while they do it?" Laurie’s comments highlighted Capstone’s commitment to integrating fun into learning while ensuring that students develop essential skills.

Laurie also recognized the efforts of teachers who strive daily to support their students’ learning journeys. "It is so fun to work with these kids and to help them and to work with the teachers who are trying every day so hard in so many ways, being creative, being resourceful, to help these kids get set on that path to lifelong learning," she noted. Capstone’s support extends beyond students to the educators who are pivotal in shaping young minds.

The interview with Randi Economou and Laurie Diethelm from Capstone highlighted the company's innovative efforts in digital literacy and their commitment to making learning both fun and foundational. Through initiatives like Cyber Sleuths and their ongoing collaboration with educators, Capstone continues to play a crucial role in preparing students for a future where digital literacy is paramount.
