The Omni-AI Alliance has launched! Founding members got a presentation on
- What is Omni-AI – definition and domains of impact
- Types of AI – understanding the universe of AI beyond Generative AI
- What to Expect from the AI convergence – examples of what it will be doing
- Timeline to Omni – how fast the convergence is happening
- Accelerators – what is causing the forward motion in education such as the teacher shortage, attrition, absenteeism and other intractable problems
- Goals of the Omni-AI Alliance
- Featured Founder - Cisco
Members brought up good points in the Orientation virtual meeting:
- What about the human effects of AI, what is happening now and in the future.
- The importance of new all-apps authentication systems.
- The importance of sharing success stories and communicating about Omni-AI in such a way as to educate far more schools and districts as to what it is all about.
- Data governance models are needed.
- Policy changes are needed, and there is a lot of inertia in schools and districts delaying the innovation that could solve many problems.
- A lingering fear of AI by many educators, and a new urging to have less tech use exactly when the corrective action would be to move towards Omni-Ai to bring back enrollments and manage efficiencies.
Take-aways from the Orientation, by LeiLani Cauthen
Despite the Orientation being held via a mistake in planning on the 19th of June, a holiday, interest was high. Enthusiasm was not only for AI, but for transformation that shows the promise of solving the biggest problems in education.
What is apparent from the first meeting is that the Alliance needs to be principally engaged in idealizing new schooling models because of what AI can be doing. This means alternatives to factory-modeled whole group learning and the exploration of schooling structure, the forms of schooling, the individual school model and the methods of teaching and learning.
Next is the need to define how Omni-AI should be given guardrails and technical model architectures should take shape to provide examples for both the curriculum and tech staff in schools and districts.
Other groups should also be engaged by the Alliance to contribute in the movement. In particular the technical aspects, the roles shifts, and the leadership needs.
The primary domain of the Omni-AI Alliance is the concept of utilizing converging AI as the mind of the schooling operation bringing resources, knowledge and humans together for learning efficiency and personalization for students. How exactly that is done and how humans intersect will be the job of the Alliance to help formulate.
Learning Counsel will be forming sub-committees to work on whitepapers and introductory documents to Omni-Ai, membership communications, and model architectures and blueprints.
Future meeting format open to all members:
15-minute presented points and news on an element of the Alliance’s interests:
- Forms of schooling, change dynamics
- Best practices – administrative level AI types and teaching with AI
- Exploration of AI types and convergence for schooling
- Educating people on Omni-AI and the future
- Balancing AI with Human Intelligence
- Lexicon, formulating common language
- Imagineering role shift
- Tech model architecture
- Policy barriers and inertia
15-minute guest speaker sharing their points, or open discussion of the initially presented points
20-25-minute open discussion with live survey on which topics to break to, using break-out virtual rooms as needed
5-minute wrap-up to welcome new members and introduce new whitepapers, documents, articles, and work of the members.
