Nicolette Grant, Chief Academic Officer at Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools still remembers the date: March 13, 2020. That’s the day that her whole world changed. “For us on March 13th, our world and North Carolina changed. That was the date that our governor declared that we were going to close schools for the safety of our staff and students. Luckily, I had a chance to meet with teacher leaders who had a strong instructional technology background. And we provided a training for them a few days before this happened,” said Grant.”

From that day until the present, it has been a bit of a mad dash for Grant as well as Kevin Sherill, Assistant Superintendent for Information Technology at Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools. But within this period of constant motion, now more than a year, the students, teachers, parents and community have seen striking results.

From working with community partners to provide facilities throughout the county, to working with multiple partners to provide broadband access, to deploying more than 40,000 devices, Grant, Sherill and the team at Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools have been an example of how to get it right.
