Voyager Sopris Learning, a division of Cambium Learning Group, Inc., announced the launch of Reading Rangers, a web-based reading program designed to strengthen K-5 students’ foundational skills with the help of engaging experiences and fun adventures. It can be used in any learning environment — in-person, remotely or a hybrid.

“Many K-5 students are not fluent readers, which leads to frustration and academic challenges, only compounded with learning environments currently in a state of flux,” said Ileana Rowe, senior vice president of marketing for Voyager Sopris Learning. “With meaningful and independent online reading practice, such as provided by Reading Rangers, these students can become better readers and reach literacy success.”

In addition to improving reading fluency and comprehension, Campbell said the engaging experiences in Reading Rangers helps with phonemic awareness, phonics, and vocabulary. He encouraged K-5 educators to sign up for a free 30-day trial, and see first-hand how the program gives teachers a tool to help students who need additional practice. It also presents data that provides insight so teachers can assess how students are performing, pinpoint where they may be struggling, and assign lessons to support instructional needs. Further, it gives students the practice they need with fun activities that build foundational literacy skills, providing them with increased motivation and engagement.

Simple and easy to use, Reading Rangers can be used:

  • independently for reading practice;
  • with any core reading or literacy intervention program; and
  • with students who require a bit more practice or those who struggle.

In Reading Rangers’ adventures, students rescue animals and embark on fun journeys filled with challenges, puzzles, and activities. Along the route, students read and answer questions, while also interacting with the text for vocabulary practice. Reading Rangers features its host, Dewey the Archivist, plus other fun characters (including a villain) as students move through journeys from jungles to caves to mountains, all the while practicing their literacy skills.

Reading Rangers can be purchased separately and is also included with Voyager Passport, an evidence-based literacy intervention program from Voyager Sopris Learning. The 30-day free trial of Reading Rangers is available for schools or classrooms; educators interested in signing up should visit www.voyagersopris.com/reading-rangers-try-it. IOS is not yet a supported platform for Reading Rangers but is due soon.
