Listen in as LeiLani Cauthen of Learning Counsel meets with John Costilla, Chief Mktg & Innovation Officer, at Capstone.

The biggest news here is that Capstone solutions can provide a “perpetual digital license” for schools – a dramatic shift in licensing. Capstone is focused on making learning fun and working continuously to improve digital products to do just that.  John discusses how their model is shifting from a library only to a classroom and district collective impact model.

What Capstone has learned is that what schools really need to do is follow their own goals rather than focus on the individual discrete knowledge object items inside learning systems and on the whole goal to reach those goals with real software support that is academically rich as a system and not just its parts.  This is a very important distinction and one that the Learning Counsel already sees schools and teachers maturing toward.  It’s something for leaders to consider as they wonder about any learning loss or lack of achievement where teachers are building individual lessons using various and sundry digital objects but not utilizing a whole of a system to teach a subject.

John also spoke about specific innovations within ebooks that are intended to cause student and teacher connectedness with communication to occur, a benefit that brings digital in line with the human-to-human interaction truly needed in learning.
