Today Nearpod, the platform where teachers find, create, and distribute digital learning experiences, announces the launch of new digital lessons using groundbreaking programming and timely documentaries, from the BBC. Now, for the first time ever, teachers can teach topics related to the environment, technology, and more, through Nearpod’s engaging classroom technology assisted by content from the BBC Worldwide Learning catalogue. The new lessons will be available in the fall of 2017.

Recent research has demonstrated how instruction based on real-world topics stimulates critical thinking, comprehension, and retention of curriculum. By combining its interactive features with high-quality content, Nearpod is arming teachers with powerful educational content designed to help kids succeed in the 21st century.

“Memorable video content can help deliver learning experiences that stay with you for a lifetime. We establish partnerships that transform the way video content is used in education. Nearpod’s digital-first platform integrates cutting edge tools with BBC’s outstanding programming, to deliver a dynamic learning experience in classrooms,” said Kara Iaconis, VP of Sales and Marketing, BBC Worldwide Learning.

Here’s a look at the benefits:

  • Comprehensive and contemporary: the lessons span five subjects critical to student development in 2017: Environment & Living Species, Innovation: Tech & Business,  Politics & Justice, Health, and Inspiring Leadership
  • Increased critical thinking: Each lesson makes use of Nearpod’s signature suite of interactive tools that span virtual reality, real-time assessments, digital chalkboards, write-in answers, and more
  • Works on any device: Nearpod’s platform works on whatever device is in the classroom, whether it’s a smartphone, desktop, laptop, or tablet
  • Customizable: Different classrooms need different curriculum, so every Nearpod lesson is editable, giving teachers the flexibility, tools, and autonomy to cater the content to the unique group of students they teach

“As a father myself, I’ve seen firsthand the power that shows produced by the BBC can have to illuminate the imaginations of kids,” remarked Guido Kovalskys, CEO and cofounder of Nearpod. “It’s a natural fit to turn these exceptionally crafted TV programs into ready-to-teach lesson plans to engage students in class.”

The news follows other notable milestones for Nearpod. The company recently partnered with Microsoft to add the storytelling tool Sway on its platform, and also integrated popular learning management systems Canvas and Schoology.
