South Dakota State University students, faculty and staff are now able to add their IDs to their iPhone or Apple Watch. With Transact Mobile Credential, students’ institutional credentials within Apple Wallet will offer secure access to facilities, residence halls and more, as well as payments for dining, laundry, vending and retail, creating a seamless experience while navigating campus. SDSU is one of nine campuses nationwide to use the mobile credential.

This next-generation credential will benefit SDSU students by eliminating the need to carry and manage multiple credentials or payment methods when trying to navigate the campus environment. Using contactless student ID credentials, students will simply present their mobile phones or watches (iPhones with iOS 12 or higher and Apple Watches with Watch OS 5 or later) to enabled readers on campus, allowing for a transaction that is both convenient and highly secure. SDSU will also have the ability to issue and manage mobile credentials quickly and remotely to students’ mobile devices.

“We are excited to announce the release of the MyJacks Card Mobile Credential to iOS users on the SDSU campus,” said Kendell Rohrbach, the university’s campus card manager. “This project has been in process for over a year, and it is great to finally be able release it for use to our students, staff and faculty.”

To facilitate transactions and ensure a secure environment, SDSU is already leveraging Transact’s NFC-ready equipment—devices that are currently in place at the University Bookstore, residence halls, vending, laundry, printing, Aramark locations and athletic events to read the campus ID.

“We’re thrilled to collaborate with SDSU to offer this next-generation credential for students,” said Jeff Staples, vice president, market development strategy for Transact. “We know that mobile devices are core to the educational experience. This new, mobile campus ID will offer South Dakota State University and its students unparalleled security, convenience and flexibility.”
