CodeMonkey, a leading game-based learning platform for teaching coding to K-8 students, announces the winning teams of Code Rush, a new nationwide coding competition created for elementary and middle school students in the U.S. Code Rush winners unlocked a progressive series of 140 coding challenges through collaborative play and problem-solving to learn to read and write in real programming languages.

Over the past month, thousands of students, hundreds of teams and over 35 states participated in Code Rush. CodeMonkey's national coding competition took place on the CodeMonkey online platform, allowing teams to compete against each other while learning and writing code using the programming language CoffeeScript. National leaderboards were published daily throughout the month of April.

Winners will receive an annual CodeMonkey classroom subscription, a set of DK’s best selling coding books for children with a $115 value and official trophy plaques from CodeMonkey.

“Computer programming today is now widely recognized as a basic trade, just like math or English,” said Jonathan Schor, co-founder and CEO of CodeMonkey. "CodeMonkey is designed to address the increasing demand for coding skills among society. During the competition, students not only acquire the fundamentals of computer science, but 21st century skills, such as multistep problem solving and analytical thinking.”

CodeMonkey has previous experience in the execution of large-scale, educational competitions. In partnership with the Israeli Ministry of Education, CodeMonkey introduced more than 250,000 students to computer science in the National Cyber Championship in 2016. Code Rush in the U.S. marks the entrance of an internationally successful, game-based learning platform for introducing children to fundamental coding skills through play.
