Effective School Solutions (ESS), the leading provider of school-based mental health services for K-12 school districts, today announced the launch of MINDBEAT, the new go-to podcast for all topics related to school-based mental health, and is the first podcast to our knowledge dedicated to this vital topic.

“MINDBEAT will be a vital resource for educators, administrators, and parents alike to keep making progress in addressing our student mental health crisis,” said Duncan Young, CEO of Effective School Solutions. “We look forward to amplifying the voices of those who are working on the frontlines of this epidemic, and hearing more about their experiences in helping students reach their full potential.”

The podcast is launching against the backdrop of the escalating challenges impacting student’s mental health, from Covid-19 to rising gun violence in schools to spikes in suicide rates. For the first time, earlier this year, a panel of medical experts recommended that primary care doctors screen all children ages eight to 18 for anxiety and all adolescents ages 12 to 18 for depression. MINDBEAT is designed to equip administrators and educators with the resources and tools needed to deliver quality mental health services to students who need it.

MINDBEAT is hosted by Young and Laine Whitaker, Senior Director of Professional Learning, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for Effective School Solutions. The podcast will launch new episodes twice per month with discussions on everything from best practices and key policies to highlighting innovative school districts.

The inaugural episode features Amy Kennedy, Co-founder of The Kennedy Forum, to discuss the current state of school-based mental health in the U.S., significant changes regarding mental health in the classroom, the youth mental health crisis, federal and state initiatives in place to address the crisis, and why we all need to invest in mental health.

MINDBEAT is the must-have resource for educators and administrators that are implementing (or thinking about implementing) a mental health care continuum. Parents and the general public are encouraged to tune-in and suggest topics for consideration. Listen and subscribe on Apple Music, Spotify, Google Podcasts and Amazon Music.
