At the Learning Futures & Tech Media Meeting in El Paso, education leaders gathered to explore how innovation is taking shape across diverse school communities.

In this panel discussion, moderated by LeiLani Cauthen, two district leaders from the border region share what they are most proud of in their work today — offering a grounded look at progress, culture, and opportunity in K–12 education.

Joining the conversation are Diana Y. Mooy of Ysleta Independent School District and Rosy Vega-Barrio of Tornillo Independent School District.

Diana reflects on the power of alignment—how her district has moved beyond siloed departments to build a shared vision around AI as more than a tool, but as part of a broader instructional culture and infrastructure. Meanwhile, Rosy highlights the strength of a small, rural district that can move quickly — where access to technology is strong, and student outcomes, from certifications to career readiness, speak for themselves.

Together, their perspectives offer a compelling look at how collaboration, culture, and context are shaping innovation — especially in communities that are often underestimated.
